Physic defense in the digital age
Oct 27, 2024
Society writ large has choosen convience of information. It's a reasonable
choice on the face of it, the internet provides a direct link between the
individual and a huge body of the works of humanity. It provides a link between
the minds of all invididuals throughout the world. However for the most part,
that information flows in one direction, from the world into the mind of the
individual: from the macro to the micro. And with access to rare books once
only available in locked rooms of scattered physical libraries across the
world, comes also advertisements, social media, and weapons of manipulation and
psychic control.

The Shape of Evil and the Man behind the Mask
A Moment of Halloween 5
Jan 13, 2024
Michael Meyers is Evil. That is what we are told at least, by the characters of the Halloween
franchise and by the text of the films themselves. Indeed, it is one of the largest constants
throughout the films. When Michael, whose face we rarely see, enters the same scene as someone who
isn't Laura Strode, we generally expect that person to die. And that is often the only reason we
get as to why Michael kills them, they're there.

Inward to Nothing: Outward to Will
May 3, 2023
To what end do I suffer? To what end do I struggle? Ends, ends, so consumed I am with ends, even
though everything seems to always be only starting. The path is always yet to be taken, the road
yet to be walked, decisions yet to be made. Maybe I've always had an issue of dedication, or commitment. Sometime someplace
I had written a reminder to myself: "Dedication is the start of the will!" But do I have the
dedication to follow any reminder to myself? How can I, if the answer to for what do I suffer, for what do I struggle,
is still empty, blank?

For intention, against media
Hope against a fatal disease
Jan 20, 2022
There is today a great dearth of intention, of thinking.
Not that there is a dearth of education or higher learning, there is plenty of availability of that
(leaving aside the trouble of equitable access), or even reasoning, but I speak rather of the
thinking in the day to day, when making a decision to, for example, walk to the fridge in the
evening to open it to find nothing of interest, knowing beforehand of course that there was not
going to be anything of interest. And in the decision then to wander without intention from that
fridge to something unrelated, hunger unsated, as there was no hunger. The fridge and the falsely
promised eating, consumption, was never an eating with the purpose of sating hunger, or even for the
pure joy of eating, it was an eating borne out of absence. An absence of intention, an absence of
knowing what to do, an absence of true action.

The Necroscholastic
Jun 10, 2020
I am not a scholastic. I am a necroscholastic. The scholars of our traditions
and histories, those upon which we are expected to comment or expound (and
today there is really only commentary) does not need to be reconciled with
anything, but rather resurrected. Born again in our own image. It is not my
intention to be particular to the intention of any author — which was the
vanity of the neoplatonists to reconcile Plato and Aristotle, which was the vanity
of the positivists to incorporate the mystical Wittgenstein into themselves
— but rather to construct my own meaning, my own figure of the past.

The Dashboard
Its Etymology and Function
Feb 3, 2020
When hearing the word "dashboard", perhaps two definitions spring to mind. The
first and most common is the dashboard of a car, with its instruments that
provide important but secondary information. The primary information being that
which is on the road itself, as of course it is more important when one is
driving that they do not hit the other cars on the road, rather than obey the speed limit
to the specific digit. The other definition is the dashboard of a web app or similar,
which provides some condensed information about some system or service so
that it can be monitored. How truly useful that information is in a specific
dashboard is variable, many professionals relying heavily on some specific
dashboard, others being keenly aware that such-and-such a dashboard is utterly
useless.
